Wow. I am sick and tired of the white rich people are evil and the black poor people are right narrative. It's sickening. After reading both the book and now watching the series, I still can't find an angle in this concept worth praising. Mia is a hypocrite. She claims she is trying to give a better life for her daughter, but to what extent? She stole Pearl even after making an agreement to give her to a family who needed and wanted her and quite frankly, could provide a more financially stable life. She's claiming that the McCullough's stole Bebe's baby and is helping Bebe regain custody, Unfortunately, regardless of circumstances, Bebe gave up being the mother figure in Mirabelle's life the second she left her out in the cold at the firestation. The whole book and tv series is pushing this sick narrative that being a mother is something that is strictly biological. What about families that can't have children? What about mother's who adopt a child? Are they not a mother? What about the McCullough's? Pearl's actual father and what would have been/should have been her mother? Distasteful.
