The Tourtured Poets Department (shortened: TTPD) is a beautiful, lyrically involved piece of work between Taylor Swift and her long time collaborators on the production and, when applicable, co-writer side.
Production wise, TTPD doesn't nessecarily fall short, as it's very good, but feel like the same old same old from Taylor.
However, lyrically is when this album shines. It's lyrics are some of the most revealing we've seen from Taylor in a long time, and TTPD is her first true breakup album since Red in 2012. With songs broad enough to be applicable to most, and specific enough to provide heavy detail into Taylor Swifts personal life and feelings more than any of her recent works has done. It feels like we have finally taken off the parental controls on Taylor, and gotten something truly mature and evolved because of it, while still appealing to an audience of all ages.
