Third-person shooter, rogue-like, fast-paced bullet hell. Enter the Gungeon with Metroid vibes. The systems may seem a little overwhelming at first, but learning how they work and becoming fluent with them is a very fun and satisfying process that will help you overcome the game's high difficulty. Stick with it and you'll find the systems to be well balanced and presented. Core gameplay is very smooth, fast-paced and satisfying, and it's nicely spiced with many optional (and sometimes mandatory) high-risk/reward decisions. The gameplay is also simple enough that you can pick it up easily after not playing it for a while-- which is why I've kept going back to it ever since it released. One of my favorite games.
