It almost feels like alien Romulus is two movies, the first half is executed perfectly and shows the audience the grim reality of life with weyland yutani, and forces the characters to interact with the aliens. All while capturing the aesthetic of the first two movies in an almost seamless way. That being said the second half of the movie where we actual encounter the alien fall completely flat for. The action sequences feel slow, the aliens don't feel dangerous. To avoid spoilers there's a showdown with aliens in a hallway that seems the be the rough equivalent of the "red room" in Aliens, and it has none of the chaotic deadly feeling of it. I wanted to love this movie, the first half got me so excited and the second half dashed my hopes. Its better than allot of the films since aliens but it is not the perfect alien movie by any standard. This coming from a 25 year fan of the franchise.
