I went to watch this movie with zero expectations and purposely avoided most media posts and marketing. That being said, as a horror movies fan, this was an interesting one for me.
The cinematography and audio were outstanding and creepy enough to bring the correct environment during the whole movie, and the focus on small details reminded me of the 70-80’s horror movies unsettling feeling.
About the characters, in general I liked the performances. Opposite to what a lot of people say here, I enjoyed detective Harker’s character and I feel her awkwardness was perfect for the story. Longlegs was creepy as hell but I wish Cage would’ve toned it down just a bit because sometimes it was distracting and felt disconnected from the vibe/tone of the movie.
The writing was good in general, but the story of some characters lacked depth which left me as viewer with a lot of plot holes and questions like why is he called Longlegs or how did Harker got her psychic abilities. The way they developed the FBI storyline was sloppy and not believable at times. As positive, the plot twists were great and the pacing was good, not too slow to make it boring, or too fast to give everything away too soon.
I’m giving Longlegs 4 stars based on my feelings and enjoyment while I was watching the movie. I enjoyed the film, even the moments I was thinking what the heck am I watching?, I loved the visuals and the retro vibe and the unsettling feeling during and after the movie. Finally, the film kept me at the edge of my seat most of the time and gave me the adrenaline I was expecting.
