Excellent series. It was a bit shocking to see that there are around 22 episodes for the first five seasons and ten for the last. Series these days usually have 8, 10 or 12 episodes per season. It caused me to wonder how they got so many high quality episodes put together in the time frame they had.
I watched this series in 2023 so some of the relationships (e.g, Elizabelth’s with the Chinese and Russian foreign ministers and leaders) seem a bit off. With the advent of the war in Ukraine, our diplomatic relationships with China, Russia and other countries have become much “frostier.” And it is no longer the case that some of the EU countries seem on the verge of bolting NATO. All of this is to say that circumstances have evolved considerably since the series ended in 2019, Nonetheless, the acting is superb and the storylines are well crafted. Very enjoyable.
I found the 6th season particularly compelling. All of the issues around Elizabeth’s impeachment were well dealt with. Congress doesn’t come off too good in this part of the series, but that is the truth in real life circa 2023. It was, however, hard to image any real president waiving all executive privileges and encouraging her staff and family members to testify before a hostile, partisan and ruthless Congressional committee.
That said. All associated with this series get kudos. The series is well worth the trip.
