Every family who becomes uber wealthy has at some point made a deal with the devil. In reality, it’s most often exploitation of workers, manipulating trade laws, etc. In this film it’s literal... and wonderful! It’s not Illuminati or free masons, it’s plain greed and protectiveness. If your family was about to die, would you kill? Try putting yourself into any of these rolls and see where your head spins too. The metaphors are rich and satisfying. Every small detail drives this home. Even the bride’s backstory is the exact one it needs to be. Theater of the absurd at its best!

I never get tired of this film. There’s so much to love. The cinematography is beautiful. The moody atmosphere created by the set and shot selections is perfect in my eyes. The acting is very moving. I’ve read that the writer/director was making excuses for his work, but I disagree. If anyone is parodied, I think that it’s those who lack a sense of wonder.
