A little short of a masterpiece -
The movie is absolutely brilliant in so many facets like the costume, the casting, the dialect, the plot and cinematography everything was absolutely stunning. Vikram, like he always does, delivered a stunning performance where he became Thangaalan himself. Same goes to Parvathy and every single character. This was my favourite movie of Malavika Mohanan and feel she has finally landed a role where she got to showcase her skills and did a stellar job at it as well. The climax of the movie absolutely sealed the deal and got me riled up and teared up at the same time. Definitely a must watch however, there was something still missing in the movie, can't really point my finger as to what though or even if it was intentional (where we supposed to feel confused because of the magic surrounding the location just like all the characters) but even then something was missing. We've seen movies like this before that keeps us guessing and bam everything makes sense. This didn't give that 100% satisfaction. But that does not mean it wasnt a great movie. The climax made me feel like watching the Neverending story where I was being reminded of my own origin and how I have been slipping into this culture of the west as well unknowingly. A knock at my own impersonal Unconscious and feeling a sense of connection with everyone who's been a victim of the west and descrimination in general. An absolute beauty and maybe that's why it hurts as this could have easily been one of those genre defining movies with a cult following for many generations to come, in the leagues of the all time greats defying the language barriers. That's why it hurts, because it was an absolute beauty but -
A little short of a masterpiece.
