Brooke Shields shows herself to be an intelligent, thoughtful and, against the odds, a much more forgiving and resilient person than anyone has a right to expect her to be. I'm amazed, looking back, that adults openly and unashamedly objectified and commodified her. The brazen sexism and dehumanization she endured reminds us of why we had to have a #metoo movement (that was far too long in coming). She is only a few years older than me, and I remember that she was synonymous with beauty (a beauty way too unattainable for most of us) and femininity (always polite and accepting when thumped over and over with the unselfconscious misogyny of the adults around her). She survived all of that with dignity and impressive resilience. Class act. Took me back to the 70's and 80's and made me re-evaluate my own polite resignation to the blatant sexism of that era. Well worth watching. I wish she'd named her rapist (people should know what he is) but I get why she didn't name him. I hope he's not still at large. Certain powerful men still brag about grabbing unconsenting young girls in the crotch, so #metoo still has some way to go. Hats off to Brooke Shields for her strength and inner beauty.
