It's a good read, but for historical fiction even the songs the heroine sings are fictionalized. Whereas the account is dated as beginning in 1865 and only covers a year, Annie sings, "When peace like a river...," written in 1873 and put to music in 1876. A little later, Annie sings, "Joyful, joyful, we adore thee," a song written in 1907.
