It’s a great series. It’s all about the time before the Hobbit & LOTR, when the elven hero’s are just a few hundred years old, instead of thousands.
The series does move A LOT slower than the movies for obvious reasons. 1) it’s a series that is expected to run 5 seasons at least, it’s a lot of story to tell. I for one am glad they aren’t skipping important material for more gore action fight scenes. I love a good battle scene but more than that I love a well thought out series with clear beginnings & clear endings. They aren’t changing a lot from the books which I also appreciate, & understand it’s a lot to cover to stay true to the books.
Be patient I have no doubt there will be plenty of action & the seasons finale will no doubt leave us wanting, as all great series do.
I don’t understand the low ratings unless it’s simply about the amount of story over action, which is silly because with all LOTR books/movies there is plenty of action to come. These are stories about warring factions so action will happen once the background is established & the story is clear & easily understood.
As for the so-called die hard JRR fans who have given the series terrible reviews as they did the PJ trilogy. If it’s not exact then they throw fits & insult the writing, directing, acting, etc.
I’m in my 50’s so of course I read the books many many years ago, most school age kids my age loved those books.
However it’s only logical that not everything in the books will translate well on film. Changes must be made to overall benefit the story being told at the time. At this time the story being told is a television series about the 3rd age of middle earth.
It’s a great series. Lots to love. It’s not the books, obviously it’s a series so not exactly the same.
