Worth reading, but not everything Hobsbawm wrote is worth reading, and even Hobsbawm's best books should be read with caution. Perhaps Evans needed to be more critical ? Difficult to say, and Evans is pretty fair to his subject.

Valuable standard reference volumes, the content is somewhat traditional and outmoded, but remains useful. I haven't seen the new editions yet.
