The sparkle of this series was blinding, with real history as a mere guide Bansali mocks both the history of Lahore and the women protayed in Heera Mandi. A shallow plot with shallow demenning chacters who suddenly all have a change of heart at the last moment, perhaps that is women through Bansali's eyes but they are not real women.
Like the actors who playes them (with the exception of the female lead who was there through nepotism) the real women who lives in Heera Mandi were highly educated, were great diplomats, worked tirelessly on their poetry and performance, were the IT girls of their day but despite being smart, hardworking, beautiful and alluring they were revered and shunned at the same time by society. Bansali failed to show a single scene where we could pity these remarkable strong women who were often sold at a young age and must have died inside many a time before finally accepting their lot.
So much wasted potential!
