Elden Ring might be the pinnacle of Fromsoftware's games. It is massive, has a wonderfully detailed open world, and great enemies/bosses. It expands on the Dark Souls formula and expands it in many ways, leading to much more variety in how you can approach combat encounters. The main gripe people have with this game (besides some optimization issues that are being looked into) is the basic Dark Souls stuff. The bad reviews are mostly coming from people who have never liked Dark Souls games, and complain that the combat is "bad", "clunky", "hard", etc. This complaint in my opinion has nothing to do with the game, but rather the player. And while that may seem bold to say, I am of the opinion that some games just aren't for everyone. Elden Ring is like a wonderful curry made by a top-notch chef, but regardless of how good it is, some people may not be able to enjoy due to their inability to tolerate spice. Not sure if that made any sense, but I hope it helped to show my way of thinking.
In short, Elden Ring is a wonderfully innovative title that sets the standard very high for games to come.
