I took my 7 year old, who loves playing the original Sonic video game on my 1990’s Sega Genesis, to see this movie. He was beyond excited to see it—and the movie did NOT disappoint! Where my son was giggling and laughing at almost everything Sonic did, I was cracking up with almost everything Jim Carrey did. Vintage Carrey performance in this one. James Marsden clearly learned something about how to act next to an animated character from his Hop experience, because he made it feel like Sonic wasn’t just real, but had relatable human feelings. I didn’t have very high expectations here, but even if I did I would have been happy walking out of the theater with this movie. So many great one-liners to keep quoting, too!
