I thought they did a great job in Mandalorian conveying emotion through a helmet and utilizing Pedro Pascal, but an entire Halo season (season 2) of master chief with no armor at all, seems a bit like they are trying to upset fans of the books and games.
And they killed the character everyone liked (Vannak) (Played By Bentley Kalu), which people said on forms acted more like master chief than master chief in the show (I actually agree).
I also wish they followed the lore even a little bit. Instead they made Halsey an enemy super early on, killed keys before they got to halo, replaced blue team and invented silver team (which never existed), have humans working with the covenant (who master chief sleeps with in the "master cheeks scene"), and have the covenant keep sparing him because he slept with them. It is all pretty wild how different it is from the books or games.
Then Steven Kane came out and said they never played the halo games or read the books. The same which happened to the Witcher 3 in Season 3, & Henry Cavill then mysteriously left.
The Halo show seems more about "Spartans have feeling too" and them being human, when to me growing up, the entire point of spartans was they were super humans who didn't talk much and could take down entire armies. It feels like the opposite of Halo. I do think it would help if they pivot a bit to having him at least keep his helmet on. Or CGI it on like fans are already doing in other videos. Mandalorian proved you can convey a lot of emotion through a helmet. Even Forward Unto Dawn felt like a great master chief.
That all said though, I am happy if others are happy with it, just frustrates me because there are some great actors/actresses on this show, and it could be so amazing with different writing. Writers which actually played and enjoyed the games would be a great start.
