Up until today, I had Daily Mail TV as one of my staples to record since I did not want to miss a single episode. I just deleted it from my PVR and will not be watching it again. It disturbs me more and more to see the unfair coverage of missing and murdered girls and women. Racialized minorities are given scant coverage whereas it is the polar opposite for white women and girls. A life is a life. The deciding factor for me was just watching one of the episodes from yesterday, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, giving brief coverage to eight year-old Sophia Mason being found murdered. The report from the host mentioned that she had been missing from December. Where was the daily coverage of her being missing? Contrast that to the coverage of a white girl missing and found murdered where, even after her body had been found after a few days, her death remained as the headlines for almost every episode for months. After briefly reporting on Sophia Mason, the host’s next words were, “Moving on….” As he went on to report on some sports story. That is how telling it is. Just another eight-year old black girl murdered so let us move on.
