I was very excited when I started this series on DVD. After about two episodes, it started feeling like Masterpiece Theater, but set in ancient Rome. The dialogue and humor between the characters just felt old, like it had been done before (on Masterpiece Theater). I'm usually very impressed by BBC's renditions of historical themes and settings. I was just hoping for a new level of vision on this one- didn't really get that.
