Two stars for setting. Perhaps you need to be a fan of horror films and have seen much more garbage to rate this one highly. A puritanical family cast out by their equally puritanical contemporaries in New England pitch camp by a forest. Magically with just one man, his wife and five children among them including two young teens, they have a cabin, chicken coop, house for their goats, shed, corn fields, etc in the next scene - in that time none of the children have grown any older so that father is one hell of a builder and farmer, except his crop is worthless. Living next to the wood he cannot hunt either so they are set to starve.
The language used is irritatingly true to the time period which is quite unnecessary. The music attempts to frighten you - in fact it may be the most frightening thing about the film. And in the end all the usual tropes about witchcraft are played out - black goat, dancing around the fire. Wasted 90minutes - sometimes you really need to switch off and walk away but the devil made us curious to see where it was going. 😑
