Just watched the movie MANDELA, never have seen such a socio-political satire touching almost every aspect of the GREAT INDIAN DEMOCRACY. Yogi Babu at his best. The film shows how there are still millions who live in this country without names, identities, and left to feed on scraps due to caste. Who are exploited, not paid for their services, denied entry, respect or dignity. Shows how caste structure prohibits the development of a society. Shows how women's labour is ignored and made invisible. How people are denied entry to houses, vehicles, even a chair. How certain occupations are 'reserved' for lower castes. And most importantly it throws light on the festival of democracy - ELECTIONS, how people are bribed, coaxed and coerced into voting. The movie would have been funny if it weren't true. Its the story of the fate of an election which hangs on the shoulders of the unlikeliest 'citizen'. Its the story of assertion of an untouchable and reminds that democracy happens when people assert their power.
