Reagan era simplistic perspectives on crime, racism, & economics muddles a really good idea about the dangers of technology & the destruction of personality. The authoritarianism inherent in policing is ignored in favor of a standard mythology of individual vigilantism triumphant against generalized evil & corporate power.
