The writing is excellent, the subtle observations of character and landscape very moving. The references to colonial powers seems out of place . The sorrows of traditional abandonment of a child in marriage might be worth more exploration as well as the traditional positions of women in general. More thought into the blending of cultures as opposed to feeling victimized with the many references of a cross as an image or the surface ideas of Christian values might have added some depth, instead of division which seems to be the effort.
