Want a mindless trashy fantasy novel with dragons? This is for you. I actually enjoyed it up to a point because I understood what kind of book it was going into it. They all speak the same way. The dialogue is seriously like a Disney channel show like Hannah Montana. EVERYONE has a very juvenile way of speaking and it does get pretty grating. Even the dragons and teachers speak that way! The main character, Violet, is supposed to be an extremely smart twenty year old woman, but emotionally she's like a young teenager. Sometimes the things she says are so much like a child it would probably get her laughed at if the school and characters were more realistic. The story is more focused on romance and sex than other potentially more interesting things. I don't mind sex scenes or even erotica but it was annoying that everyone seemed to be given the same sex drive or same tastes. Like all the characters are just sex starved teenagers who just learned how to cuss. Overall I say it was good for what it was until it got more romance focused then I began to become less interested. What helped a lot was picturing it as an anime in my head so the cheesey lines didn't make me recoil into myself. I say give it a try! You'll know pretty quickly if it's for you or not.
