MacNulty in the lead role gives off continuous Oscar buzz. She is undeniably the most powerfully emotive, genuinely complex, sincere and funny Anne ever to grace the role. The casting is simply brilliant, the acting is nuanced, passionate and superb, the cinematography is elegant and knowing, and the (re) writing that introduces new streams of diegetic narrative is properly risky, up to speed and in the right depths to be pertinent as ever for these #MeToo late postmodern times. This is an aesthetic gem worthy of continual viewing and sustained analysis, let alone admiration.
