My mother took me to see “Imitation Of Life” in 1959 when I was only seven years old. Even at such a tender age I was captivated by this film, the tear jerker of all time. When I heard the magnificent voice of Mahalia Jackson singing “Trouble Of The World” during the highly emotional funeral scene, I started crying. All these years later I’m still moved to tears. Mahalia Jackson is the true Empress of Gospel and Soul. There will never be another singer in this genre like the legend herself. God bless you Miss Jackson.
