I thought it was hilarious, with many true-to-life observations and depictions of the reign of the late and unlamented Romanian dictator (I refuse to write his name). Yes, I now know that the whole thing is tongue-in-cheek, but I watched it not really sure of this. I lived in Romania in 1968-69 and again in 1971 and 1973 as a visiting American professor and scholar. The action of this series is fifteen years or so later, but, trust me, it hits home. The details of daily life and stuff like that are painfully, diabolically accurate. I could give you "real life" instances of some of the most outlandish things going on in this series, but I'm afraid the dictator's Securitate would come after me.
