From poor cinematography to embarrassingly awkward moments, this film barely warrants two stars. My wife and I lasted 1.5 of the 2.33 hrs, which was longer than 3 other couples (out of about 10 total couples). So 40% of the audience left early. Yes, it was that bad.
You get tired of seeing the main character's (Alexander Skarsgard) face while he is in "battle mode." Over and over you see him walking through and killing people (in embarrassing and poorly choreographed fight scenes) with a closeup of his face and shoulders while performing these kills.
One particularly awkward moment is when his father is transferring the "kingship" to his son, they both act like dogs while the father lets out a loud burp and his son lets out a very impressive fart. While funny, I think the intention was a serious one.
Why two stars instead of one? Since we didn't stay for the ending, I felt it wasn't fair to give only one star. But we did stay for the majority of the film, and what we saw was certainly worth 1 star.
