I liked the storyline as presented, it's a decent and captivating story adaptation. I'm on episode 4 of the series at present.
But... it is in no way true to the books. Louis was my favorite character. Series Louis... im torn between like, disgust and just wanting to smack him.
Book Louis remains deeply in touch and in love with humanity, and has a huge and sensitive heart. His family remained a prominent hold to his identity. Louis in the series-while a great character and well done, is aggressive, a bit selfish, and embraces his angry/violent side.
Book Lestat was spoiled, narcissistic, egotistical and loved killing for sport. Hes bored with his existence and quite the sadist. Series Lestat evokes pity, annoyance and seems desperate for love and connection.
It's almost as if the series has swapped major parts of their personalities with each other from the book to this adaptation.
Claudia... don't get me started. She's supposed to be a child!! A very young one. While I get the difficulty in finding a child to portray the mental anguish of Book Claudia, I was/am not a fan of her beening a spoiled teen, particularly with the boyfriend arc in comparison to the book. If I had never read the book, I'd say it was well fine and works for the series.
In short, I'm enjoying the series itself fir itself. In comparing the series vs the book, however, I personally do not find it true to the source material at all, save the title, character names, and the fact there's an interview. I get that the writers were trying to make it relevant to today, however the biggest thing I enjoyed about the books was that they were so very realistic they suspended reality just enough to make you wonder IF there could be truth in it.
The series just doesn't quite hold the same magic.
