I normally avoid melos like the plague (put off WLGYT for a looooong time) but I will watch anything with Jeon Yeobeen in it, so I steeled myself and plunged into this drama.
I know the concept of a dying lead is a clichรฉ, but the story is executed in such a masterful, profound, and beautiful way! Add to that the thoughtful directing, powerhouse acting performances of NKM and JYB, stunning and melancholy cinematography, and the heartbreaking music---and you've got one of the best melodramas to come out of Korean entertainment.
I remember NKM saying that this drama is like eating cold noodles, and truly the experience is like that. The writing and the pacing successfully make you anxious, terrified, even desperate to see these characters make it and find happiness, but at the same time there is so much tenderness and romance for the audience to hold on to.
I wanted to wait until the drama ends to write this review, but it's already scored so deeply in my heart. I don't want a cop-out ending where she magically gets well, but at the same time I want her to live so badly. I want him to have all the time in the world to keep loving her.
Even now my heart feels heavy just thinking about it. Jeha and Daeum, I will forever love you and keep you.
