Deserving of every accolade. Cinematography superb, creating along with powerful understated acting at a perfect pace, a film in a class that few others can reach or sustain. Ludovico Einaudi’s music perfectly enhances this remarkable film.

Every aspect of this true story on film is captivating. All cast members without exception brilliantly portrayed, moments of real humour whilst retaining poignancy. Attention to detail, thoughtful Direction, camerawork, moments of the reality of war, and despair of young lives lost. The scene of a chance meeting with enemy veterans was amongst the most powerful, I can’t speak highly enough about the whole production. Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson are a match made in heaven, every wrinkle, the look in their aging eyes and delivery of the script, an accolade to their belief in the story and each other.

This was a powerful and tough film to watch, taking us into dementia from the inside. All the cast were immersed in their characters, making it hard to remember they were acting. Every aspect of this film from writing, directing, casting and music, to set design and pace is perfectly suited to the subject, and exceptionally portrayed by all the actors, and one of Sir Anthony Hopkins finest. “The Father” has given me a greater understanding of dementia.
