The game was amazing -- not just the gameplay but the acting, the story, the and the storytelling through action was done incredibly well. Truthfully, I don't really mind the "woke" content or the race-swapping. I don't mind if the actress for Ellie does not look just like Ellie. I don't think any of these elements detract from the experience on its own.
If you are aware of the discourse surround the series, then you know why I had to clarify the points above. Verdict: This is a not only a garbage pile of an adaptation, it is a garbage pile of a TV show.
Starting with the writing, the character motivations and personalities don't make sense. It is almost complete opposite of the characters and their driving factors that make TLOU, well TLOU. The acting is atrocious. While Bella and Pedro's acting were far from good in S1, season 2 with just Bella really exposed just how limited she is in not only her dialogue and facial, but her physical acting. There is no semblence between the game character and TV show character. There is no emotion or sense of urgency that is the basis from which the story advances. From what I've seen, the characters were purposely written with no respect to the source material, instead inserting fun quips and Bella's goofy personality into the character as a means to be different for the sake of being different(?).
I feel sorry for those who worked so hard on TLOU2, only for it to be propagated to a wider audience through this arrogant, ignorant, piece of bigot sandwich.
