Yellowstone pushes dysfunctional to a whole new level. The entire family is mean and vile not only to outsiders, but to each other and even innocent children. Wth happened to these people to make them so venomous? Why would Evelyn Dutton lay there dying and use her last words to blame her child for her death? How can Beth be so callous and heartless to Carter? The storyline of 1883 brings meaning and understanding for Dutton’s actions. In 1883 the Dutton’s care about and love each other, they even show compassion for outsiders. The heart and soul of the Duttons in Yellowstone has been lost but the fighting, killing, and insanity keeps you watching, desperately waiting for a glimpse of compassion or caring that never comes. Gave it three stars because Kevin Costner and the rest of the cast can really sell the hollow, selfish emptiness Yellowstone delivers.
