One of best fantasy novels I’ve read in twenty years.
Wonderful and sometimes horrific tale, polyphonic meta-narration, gay romance, discreet urban fantasy, touching characters, sensitive and flamboyant style, dazzling writing as far as the genre is concerned, honest imagination as far as events are concerned, but sumptuously so when taking into account that its diegesis deals with both story, story-telling and the worlds thereby put in motion - and as in any true tale, that beyond the questions of power, it is secretly a question of love.
(There are things I like a little less, bits of adolescence that I find a bit hasty - but that contributes to the overall charm.)
