Salvor Harden is famous for saying violence is the last refuge of the Incompetent - in the Apple series Salvor is a woman which is completely fine but she’s carrying a weapon in nearly every scene of the first two episodes. In the novels Harden always succeeds with plotting and never resorts to violence. Seeing Salvor as a soldier should have ruined the entire show for anyone who wanted something resembling accuracy.
This is a show with the same character names as those in the foundation novels but the story lines are not even remotely close to the original. The fact that it’s called Foundation by Isaac Asimov is an insult. I can't even try to enjoy it as a random scyfy series because it does not resemble the novels at all. Hari never meets Salvor, and there are no clone emperors or magic, or super powers. Hari doesn't even board the ship for Terminus in the novel, he is old by the time the Seldon plan goes into full effect.
Giving this show any stars is difficult.
If you've rated this well, you either haven't read the novels or simply do not care that the spirit of foundation is completely absent. Asimov would hate the show, it's really awful. It's hard to say that this is even loosely based on the novels besides names and locations. They could have done far better with long episodes. The original story is far more compelling than what they came up with.
The Expanse novels are not on par with with Asimov's work, but the show is fantastic example of how to honor the spirit of a great series of novels.
Apple TVs Foundation couldn't possibly be more disappointing.
