This movie called out the mansplainers, the catcallers, everything men do that make women feel bad about themselves.
As a teenager who struggles with anxiety and self-doubt daily, this movie hit home. The two themes were extremely well intertwined. On one hand it called out the patriarchy that still exists in the world. On the other it showed girls that they are perfect just the way they are. These ideas fit together perfectly through the movie to make a funny yet meaningful and thought-provoking film. Barbie found that she was enough just the way she is. Watching this movie, I felt so much better about myself. As the mom in it points out, it’s hard being a woman. You can’t be anything, because you have to focus on being just right. This movie showed girls that they can be whatever they want to be.
I’m not a film expert. I know that my opinion doesn’t matter as much as others’ do. But I do believe this movie was an amazing movie. It was funny yet meaningful, thought- provoking yet fun to see. The movie called out the toxicity in our society while showing girls that they are enough by just being themselves. I believe Barbie is a must-see for every person - and that we can all learn a thing or too while laughing at the jokes in it.
