Even though most of the main chapters are women, they are clearly written by a dude. Honestly I'd prefer something that doesn't pass the bechdel test to poorly written characters and plot. The big tip off to this is there is an unnecessary amount of sexualized gore and creepiness. I really enjoyed the unique animation style and the concept of a world filled with cryptids. I found it odd that the film was criticized for having too political of a message. Was the message not "don't hunt and caged creatures/people just because you think they are neat?" How is that political?
