Marginally better than the awful action movie made by Shyamalan.
Lots of suspicious reviews saying that it's okay for this show to not be a "carbon copy". In fairness it does a few things differently and they are neat but it feels like they halfway gave up and made an awkward adaptation of the widely loved original cartoon. I would have expected more for something held in high esteem by many.
I find it surprising that this show does a ton of exposition by characters saying what they are about, their life story, their motivation, the stae of the workd without really showing it or sounding like they are engaged in it. So then why should the audience? The cartoon showed and developed the characters and story in much more organic methods.
I recommend to skip and watch the original cartoon and it's sequel "Avatar: The legend of Korra".
