Mindless and repetitive lyrics that sound AI generated and painfully dated. We all miss the Katy of the 2010s but it’s time to mature and grow as an artist. This is a step back from the the growth she attempted during the Witness era. It seems so out of touch, especially against the work created by pop contemporaries this year.
I’d like to note that it is fine to create a dance/club album but don’t market it as some kind of exploration of womanhood, motherhood or meditation on the world. Most of these tracks are banal pop prepackaged creations - the equivalent of eating processed food with zero value.
Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift are a private chefs meal in Italy, Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande are a fine Italian restaurant in New York, Olivia Rodrigo and Dua Lipa are Olive Garden - Gracie Abrams is Kraft Macaroni and cheese… Katy Perry is now the microwave version of that.
