After watching two episodes I was still hopeful that somehow this series would show some insights into the underbelly of the music world. Instead, after watching episode threeโฆ.Iโm left feeling a little grossed out and frankly, bored.
There are certain story lines that are train wrecks that you canโt look away from. This is not one of them. The attempt at shocking the audience falls short. The writers forget that the shock value only works if the characters are interesting and you care what happens to them.
On top of being grossly and obviously written by a male perspective, it is boring as hell. Predictable. Basic. Itโs the same story line written from the same male lens that we have been watching for decades. This time it just seems a little grosser after what weโve been through. This series wouldnโt even keep me awake if it werenโt for being mildly disturbed occasionally.
Do better. Romanticizing child abuse and hinting at future traumas in episodes to come has left this viewer finished after episode 3.
The series touts that it is about exploitation. I argue it is a sad attempt at shock and awe that went awryโฆthe perfect blend of yawn and ew. ๐
