This movie is more like a 3.5 stars out of 5... but hey, I'm a generous guy and will lean toward the 4 instead of the 3. ;)
FYI... some possible spoilers ahead...
I liked the movie. I don't understand why people say it's got a cliche plot because I didn't find myself bored and feeling like I knew what was going to happen. Perhaps I'm just naive?
Also, the Twist with Jennifer Aniston came as a surprise to me so that was cool :) And the ending was somewhat satisfying as well.
With that said, I didn't exactly find myself rooting for Clive Owen's character. He handled everything terribly and was right by originally wanting to call the police at the motel, even if it meant exposing his adultery (I know....if he did that we wouldn't have a movie right? I get that lol).
But then, every decision he made after that made me lose more and more and more respect for him, which made me less likely, as a viewer, to want him to succeed and prevail. He basically cheated on his GORGEOUS wife, put one of his good friends in danger and got him killed, then gave up ALL his daughter's medical money (7 years worth) and for WHAT again? ALL for a woman (Aniston) he knew for like 3 days and wanted to cheat on his wife with... So then the scene after he decides to give away his daughter's medical savings and feels he is in the clear... we find him sitting with the investigator, and he realizes he may be in trouble for the murder of his friend. So that alone instigates his need to FINALLY come clean to his wife and the authorities... In my opinion, it's not because he feels it's the right thing to do anymore, it's because he's backed into a corner and realizes he can no longer buy his way out of it. It just bothers me that as a father, he put the needs of a woman he barely knew and was going to cheat with, before his own wife and daughter's health.. which by the way was life threatening. He comes across as a selfish person and I found it hard to root for a guy like that, in my opinion.
So I know I'm kind of hating on the movie...but I still did enjoy it and think it's worth watching. Thanks ;)
