A lot of the one and two stars seem to have completely lost the point of the film. One reviewer even complains how the cast acts indifferent about what's happening around them. This was done intentionally. We are not only indifferent, we are also blissfully ignorant. This film tries to show how an oblivious, self-worshipping predator eventually meets its end by other, less ignorant predators. This is the story of one (plausible) way that the empire we currently live in will fall.

Most of the bad reviews are from people who were expecting something they didn't get: a slasher horror with gore and the usual. This movie is not for everyone. If you're into psychological thrillers, this is for you. The atmosphere, the soundtrack, and the filming all add to it. I loved it, and for the most part I get bored very easily.

The premise is interesting. The setting and the plot were very promising, but ultimately the film is full of plot holes, missing key informa, and worst of all: it's very very slow. Lately, it seems, the gold standard in film-making has become to drag out a story and overplay the mystery card.

You will only like this film if you're familiar with the science. I thought the main premise was interesting, but the way the film was done mostly ruined the suspense and excitement. This film is slow, the first half an hour to an hour are almost useless and took forever to get one nugget of information about the characters and their history. The second half of the film was basically the propaganda your supervisor uses on you to get you to work even harder. Lots of fillers and scenes that are just useless and killed any suspense you had. The other reviewers compare this to Contact. I'm sorry, but Contact is infinitely better than this one. The second star I only give for the (almost) accurate portrayal of how scientists react and work when they're about to discover something. I honestly think the whole film could have been summed up in a 30 minute pseudo-documentary.

It's really interesting none of the reviews here addressed the root of the issue this movie raises: poverty in the supposed greatest country in the history of the world. Throughout the film I had just one thought "how much longer can America survive like this"
