I loved this series. Ryan Murphy uses the sad yet terrifying circumstances of Ed Gein's schizophrenic life to show the influence his depravity has had on film, literature and in media. Gein becomes an almost sympathetic figure as he is so sexually oppressed by his verbally abusive mother, that he ultimately slips in and out of reality. The fusion of sex and murder overcomes him as his violent, haunting behavior is influenced by his obsession with Nazi atrocities. Murphy suggests that Ed Gein's sad pathetic life has been the fodder for all modern slasher movies.
