This film was brutalized by critics as being "faith-based." I saw no point where there was any reason to assume the "hand of God" acting in the film, and believe doing so biased the reviews. The screenplay is a bit clumsy, but the acting and cinematography are excellent. The scenic design and special effects are good but clearly needed a higher budget.
If you like good acting, World War II era films, and can deal with the concept that many people of that time were religious I'd highly recommend the film, though it can get a little rough in the narrative.
