I have a weird history with The Wheel of Time. I love fantasy, but the books are really kinda hard to read. I've read all but the last three books.
As someone who has read the books but wouldn't necessarily call himself a fan (or not one) there is one crucial detail that was necessary to make this show enjoyable.
The characters were all in their late teens in the books. This may not seem like such a huge deal, but the major point of this entire story is about Rand and his friends' coming of age story amidst an enormous amount of things preventing them from being what they want to or could have been including the Wheel itself forcing it's will upon their destiny.
One example is the braid Egwene has in the first episode. In the books she wasn't allowed to have her hair in a braid since she wasn't old enough yet. (Or maybe it's the other way around...not sure) The braid is a huge part of her story arc and they just completely did away with it.
I haven't even finished the first episode and I'm already done giving it a chance.
