I couldn’t put this book down, it was enticing and had me on the edge of my seat. At times I cried and worried for the outcomes/decisions that Demon had to face. There was no sugar coating the foster care system, drug use, cycles of poverty and being a young person growing up. The book had some excellent female characters, my favourite being June. Her tenacity, spirit, passion and wisdom was something else. As an Australian reading this book some of the references I didn’t understand that are local/US centric but it didn’t impact the story. I was rather chuffed that Demon comes by an Australian family by the river which was nice to read 😊
This book had me engrossed - reading at any opportunity I could get, up in the middle of the night to keep up with the thirst for more !
A fantastic read, compelling and devastating in the same breath.
A true masterpiece 😊
