This series tried to press so many cultural buttons - gay rights, police misconduct, bad parenting - that you’re left wondering what was the main message. Also, there were so many implausible plot points [spoiler alert coming] the most notably being a child choosing to run away and live in squalor under the streets of NYC because, as he put it, he was scared of his dad, even though his father didn’t seem all that threatening. What was enjoyable to watch were scenes with Eric, the oversized walking puppet who was created by the missing child Edgar and haunts his father’s psyche.
