The show's attempt to be culturally and socially relevant is so forced and overdone that it makes for difficult viewing. They are simply trying WAY too hard overcome the critique of SATC's blindness to race, gender and class issues.
There's the token non-binary character, the token POC, the token disabled person, the lesbian couple, the adolescent in crisis. It feels like they're trying so hard to cover all the bases of the current hot button issues that they lost the essence of the show's magic - Carrie navigating the ups and downs of intimate relationships, love, loss and sex, alongside her best friends Charlotte, Miranda (and unfortunately no Samantha).
There's nothing wrong with introducing new characters and tackling social topics, but it feels like they're trying to shove it down the viewer's throat so they won't get blowback on social media. Too bad....
