Kaylee Smith – Google

This is by far my favourite of Tessa's books. Watching Priscilla grow and find Christ is a very moving and inspirational journey. Her relationships with her family, maid, and Aquila are developed so well throughout the course of the novel. I especially love the dynamic between Priscilla and Aquila, and Aquila's backstory and testimony. This book really brought to life the church in Rome and Ephesus and made me think more deeply about each characters spiritual journey.

I loved this book! I love that Tessa's writing often takes the reader throughout the protagonist's whole life - and the way we see Lydia heal from her teenage years. The friendships in this book are so pure and I loved seeing Tessa feature characters from her other books. This book made me think much deeper about Lydia's spiritual journey and brought to life the characters of the Macedonian church.

This book has one of the best and most unpredictable (yet very well foreshadowed) plot twists I've ever read. I loved the setting and the writing style of E. Lockhart, and despite feeling that the four main characters were very undeveloped, by the end of the book I realised that I cared about each one deeply. I even think that leaving the characters personalities undeveloped was a stylistic choice representing the trauma resulting from earlier tragedy. This book was a little slow paced, and the plot twist is pretty much the whole plot.

I read this straight after 'The Inheritance Games' and it did not let me down. Every puzzle, mystery and clue from the last book return with double meanings and envelope the book with so much mystique and uncertainty. I love journeying with Avery and discovering clues as she does - and the plot twist is so, so good. The romance in this book is even better than the last and I am so excited to see it resolved in 'The Final Gambit'! 5/5 recommend.
