I adore the Addams's world. I haven't watched the CGI films, maybe due to how iconic the 90s films were to me.
But this was Wednesday, a 'grown up' story. Of a homicidal maniac in the making. What wouldn't there to be loved... 🫰🫰
Ortega was brilliant, captured the lack of everything you would expect. Except a certain lack of opportunities to indulge in her being the nutter we expect.
Thing was missing a bit of mania as well. No raised dust, flying leaves or stuttering... Sword wielding... Little jumps.
And this is my gripe. The writing in the details was lazy, sometimes so painfully that even Gomez would weep. Thing being found in the way he was. A couple of MacGuffins that were the too easy choice, a certain lack of the other weird types... Not being all the weird. When we know what the rest of the weird could potentially be, 'Cousin Itt' for example. Yes, a family member, but all the modern weird students were terribly, awfully normal.
I really, really like the new series. I don't love it though. I should love it. Tim Burton... I'm sorry, you missed a beat x
