There was enough real drama in Victoriaโs household, some written by Victoria herself, that show-makers could have easily developed more than enough relative content to her reign, her personal life and Victorian times, in general. I am increasingly put off of this series, especially Season 3, due to the outrageously overblown and fictional storylines that have ZERO supporting evidence in history. Of course these historical periods dramas will have embellished and fictional content, but Iโve yet to see a modern show that fundamentally changes the nature of real people, so much so, that they are unrecognizable to any historican or history fan. Itโs so unjust to assign all of the characters fake human flaws rather than assign them with their actual, documented human flaws, which they had aplenty, including the monarchs. For example, why make Victoriaโs sister a villain instead of showing their relationship as loving? Because women in a cat fight is better? Great, another lost moment to show the strength of women along with their shortcomings, in a relatable way. Also, Victoria and Albert respected each other far more than depicted. Victoria bestowed him with the title that Parliament was reluctant to. He was privy to her daily briefs and she respected his opinions (even if she disagreed), so much so, she had a entrance to a state room revamped so they could enter simultaneously when addressing politicians. So many ignored nuances that could portray an even better โstoryโ that viewers could have a real sense of what was achieved and what was disasterous during the early part of her reign.
โVictoriaโ is a visual masterpiece but the content is all too modern and little better than a soap opera or โrealityโ series. One dimensional characters...missed opportunity.
